Lagoon Marine Life Interpretation
Conducted marine fauna surveys and created a user-friendly field guide for a boutique resort in Upolu, Samoa, enhancing guest snorkelling experiences, increasing ecological awareness, and supporting the resort’s nature-based tourism offering.
Location: Upolu, Samoa
Client/Sector: Boutique tourism resort
Challenge:
A resort located adjacent to a coral lagoon offered exceptional snorkelling but guests often lacked the ecological context to understand the marine life they were observing. Management wanted to enhance the visitor experience by helping guests recognise common species and better understand the lagoon ecosystem.
Aquatic Assessments Role:
Aquatic Assessments conducted marine fauna surveys within the lagoon to identify commonly occurring species and document their abundance, life-history characteristics, and ecological roles. This information was translated into a simple, user-friendly field identification sheet highlighting the most frequently observed species. We also provided advice on durable, environmentally responsible printing materials suitable for repeated use in a marine environment.
Outcome:
The resort gained a practical educational resource that improved the snorkelling experience for guests, increased awareness of the lagoon ecosystem, and strengthened the resort’s nature-based tourism offering.
