Stormwater Treatment Assessment

Evaluated a proprietary filtration material for mitigating harmful algal blooms and improving coastal stormwater quality, providing independent scientific guidance to support evidence-based decisions on feasibility and environmental benefits.

Location: South Australia

Client/Sector: Environmental technology / coastal water management

Challenge:

A client was investigating whether a proprietary filtration material could be used to mitigate harmful algal blooms and improve the quality of stormwater discharging into coastal waters. Independent scientific evaluation was required to assess the potential effectiveness of the material and interpret laboratory testing results in an environmental management context.

Aquatic Assessments Role:

Aquatic Assessments provided independent technical review and interpretation of laboratory testing results relating to the proposed filtration technology. The work included assessing the potential effectiveness of the material for reducing algal biomass and improving water quality, as well as evaluating its relevance to managing stormwater discharges entering coastal marine environments. The assessment translated technical test results into practical environmental implications to support evidence-based decision-making.

Outcome:

The client received an independent scientific assessment of the technology’s feasibility and potential environmental benefits, helping inform decisions on whether further trials or deployment should be pursued.
